The Array Optimization of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Based on a New Asymmetric Wake Model

With the increasing demand for wind energy, vertical axis turbine (VAWT) is attracting more and attention. In order to design VAWT array better performance, wake model needs reflect characteristics well. Based on asymmetric characteristic, a new proposed in this paper, which combination of two semi Gaussian functions with different deviations, can be called “double model”. The simple has only four parameters (mean, amplitude, left deviation right deviation). Compared traditional Top-hat model, characteristic wake. particular, it describe behavior merging case counter-rotating twin turbines. velocity field reproduced accurately. goal function mainly based performance basic unit, ensure rapidity optimization process. optimal arrangements under criteria are analyzed. Moreover, truncation ratio introduced that downstream works at rated condition, ratios provides good choice preliminary array, some relevant suggestions arrangement have been put forward.
